How to Become a Christian
We believe that God's word, the Bible,
is the authority for all of life. The Bible clearly outlines the way to
become a Christian. Look with us at these references in the Bible. These
references are from the New American Standard (NAS) version of the Bible.
Romans 3:10
"... as it is written, 'THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;..."
Romans 3:23
"... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ..."
We see from this that we are all sinners.
Romans 6:23
"For the wages of
sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord."
John 3:18
"He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has
been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. "
From these two verses above, we see
that sin is punishable by spiritual death.
Romans 5:8
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us. "
John 14:6
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no
one comes to the Father but through Me."
Here we see that Jesus died for us.
He is the way of life.
Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no
one may boast."
Salvation is a free gift from God.
It is not earned.
Acts 3:19
"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away,
in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;"
You must repent of sins and have a
desire to please God.
Romans 10:9-10
"... that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe
in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for
with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with
the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."
You must respond to Jesus in faith
and publicly confess your new-found faith in Him.
If you would like to have salvation in
Jesus Christ, sincerely pray a prayer like this one:
"Dear God, I know that
you love me. I confess to you my sins and my need for salvation. I turn
away from my sins and place my faith in Jesus as my Savior and Lord. In
Jesus' name I pray, amen."
After you have received Jesus Christ into
your life, tell a pastor or another Christian about your decision. Show
others your faith in Christ by asking for baptism by immersion in your
local church as a public expression of your faith.
